Lagos - Friday 15th April 2011

I wake up on Friday morning feeling vibrant and rearing to go. I need to see my mum today as she's in town in transit; on her way for a well deserved holiday.

Quick shower (no make up), phone calls and emails done, checked a few things off my TO DO list, and its looking good! I get into the car, turn on the A/C (which I had just spent N25,000 on 2 days before) its cooling well enough as the temperature outside is around 40 degrees centigrade

So far so good, I set off. I pick my brother up on my way to my mum's. We drive for about 10 mins into a 1hour journey and bam! it all begins. Traffic begins to slow and eventually stops! As if thats not bad enough, in the near 40 degree heatwave, I notice that the car suddenly feels hotter ( no way! this CANNOT be happening) my brother is fast asleep in the passenger seat, blissfully oblivious of what's going on. I'm hoping against hope that its just the heat and that it would get better as soon as the traffic eases but alas that was not to be. So I continue to crawl at snail's speed
for at least an hour and not moving very far from where the saga began. At this point I'm so stressed, I'm silently cursing, and at the same time thanking God for the small miracle of having no make up on! I ring the technician who had fixed the AC - all of 48 hours before- He feigns shock which infuriates me some more but I keep my cool (lol). I carry on crawling; after about an hour and a half, I manage to get on the bridge and experience a little respite. I take this opportunity to speed up and get some air into the car, but shortly after, the curse of traffic afflicts again! We resume crawling, my brother is still asleep!

We finally manage to make it to mum after 2 hours!!! and my brother finally opens his eyes (thanks for the company!)
We get into the house, hug mum, chit chat, get something to eat, and......NEPA strikes!!! Jeez! Is there no end to it? phew!! Anyway, I hang out with mum for a couple of hours and then leave to meet up with a friend; looking forward to going out and unwinding (maybe dance the night away and try to blot out the nightmare) but nooooooo the Nigerian government has other plans. Pre election curfew - No movement between 10pm and 6am! Okay! Frustration has come full circle!!

Nigeria, I find it really difficult to hail thee O - and now, hopefully you see why!
